spineOur community welcomes a new chiropractor to the area! Dr. Jeff Sawyer joined Tackett Chiropractic Center in Queensbury, NY just a few months ago on January 2, 2013.

We thought we'd pick Dr. Sawyer's brain for some advice, tips and insight from an expert. If you are suffering from chronic pain -- whether it's your back, neck, joints, muscles or other ailment -- find out what Dr. Sawyer has to say!

What kinds of ailments can a chiropractic visit help?

Chiropractic Adjustments treats the spine and nervous system. Your spine houses your spinal cord, which is the communication center between your brain and body. Over time, from poor posture, trauma and everyday wear and tear, you lose mobility causing restrictions or areas of decreased motion in the spine. This doesn't allow for proper biomechanical function, causing pressure on the nerves exiting the spine, going to every organ, muscle and tissue of your body. The pressure on the nerves causes interference, like static on a cell phone, and information is mixed up or lost. Chiropractic adjustments relieve the pressure on the nerves and allow your brain to communicate with your body clearly.

How long does an average session last?

Typically, the initial visit, which consists of a thorough history, comprehensive exam and X-rays if needed, takes about 40 minutes. Every visit from there on out takes about 15-20 minutes, case depending.

What are some common things you hear from your patients after a chiropractic session?

"I wish I had done this a long time ago."
a plus cleaning.jpgSince not all of us are able to juggle our jobs and countless other responsibilities AND keep a sparkling home, too, there are professional cleaning companies that come to our rescue! A Plus Cleaning is a local company with professional cleaners that can make any room, home or building so clean you could eat off the floors (not that I recommend doing so).

So when we wanted to know the good, the bad and the dirty, we knew who to ask. A Plus covers a wide span of areas, from Schroon Lake to Clifton Park. We caught up with owner Danielle Rock and asked her to confess some closely guarded secrets about home cleaning.
While many us of have greatly enjoyed the growth and beautification  of downtown Glens Falls and City Park over the last 7+ years, it has sparked even more desire to continue to improve Glens Falls: A place where kids can enjoy swinging or playing on a jungle gym, where children can run and splash in a water fountain, and where 9-5ers can spend their lunch break away at a quaint Parisian-esque bistro table taking in the beauty of the City Park. Rhianna Hogan-Cerro, Hudson Falls native and mother of two, has set out to make this vision a reality - something each and every one of us could enjoy over and over again.

This summer, Hogan-Cerro, a fashion designer from FIT, will soon be opening her own shop and design studio in downtown Glens Falls. In choosing this location, she quickly realized she wanted a space where she and her husband could take their two daughters to play; as she looked closely at City Park, she soon realized the potential it had to become an even greater multi-use meeting place for every age to enjoy for hours on end. Idea after idea came to Rhianna as her passion for the park grew: family-friendly improvements and additions to City Park that could make a huge impact to the park itself AND downtown Glens Falls as a whole. After much thought and research, she decided to put a plan together and give our city park a bit of a face lift. Check out my conversation with her below, to find out more details.

Tony DeSare1.jpg
Singer, pianist and songwriter Tony DeSare is back in Glens Falls, NY for his annual "Home For the Holidays Concert" on November 23 and 24. He will be performing all of his favorite covers and his own hits at the Charles Wood Theater at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 23, and at  2:00 pm on Sunday, November 24.

"With his dark hair, bright brown eyes and toothpaste smile that rarely fades," raved The New York Times, "DeSare is one of the most promising young male performers. He is a Sinatra acolyte in his early 30's who sings Prince as well as Johnny Mercer." According to USA Today, "DeSare belongs to a group of neo-traditional upstarts stretching from Harry Connick Jr, to Michael Bublé and Jamie Cullum. DeSare covers old and newer pop and jazz standards without smothering or over-thinking the material."

Tony was born and raised in Hudson Falls, New York to a musical family. I was able to ask Tony a few questions while he was home for the holidays.
There is a new bike shop that opened up in downtown Glens Falls in October and is ready to help the community stay healthy! Dan and Paul Fronhofer have opened up Grey Ghost Bicycles in downtown Glens Falls on Glen Street. Their bike shop is a place where discerning riders can go to gain knowledge, share stories, and join the growing cycling community in the Glens Falls area.

You can be a part of the growing cycling community on Saturday mornings at 8:30 a.m. in front of their shop to join them on their "Bagel & Coffee Ride." The Saturday morning bike rides are a great way to stay in shape and feel healthier throughout your weekend. I stopped by to find out more from both of the Fronhofer's ....

Have you ever suffered from aches and pain in spots you didn't even know existed on your body? Every day people suffer from pain caused from muscle or joint injuries and have no idea how to relieve this pain. Will and Anthony Nunziata are coming to Glens Falls next month! The two talented brothers are coming to the Charles Wood Theater on August 19 and 20. They will be performing "Make Someone Happy," their debut album live both nights at 8 p.m.theater.jpg

If you were at the Saratoga Brewfest in June, or go out in  downtown Glens Falls or Saratoga, you may have heard some songs being played by the band "Groove Therapy." They're a seven piece band that plays covers of classic funk and soul songs. I had the chance to ask the drummer, Bruce Lant, some questions about his great band and himself a few days ago.
