Even the most chipper morning person can struggle through work on a Monday morning. Say what you will for drinking caffeine, but having something to look forward to can give you a huge boost to help you through the day. Today, why not set your sights on making it to next Wednesday's Take a Bite in Downtown Glens Falls? Aside from the great shopping deals and delicious tapas, you can see something most of us have only heard of: a sword swallower!

Take a Bite is a celebration of downtown Glens Falls each Wednesday. You can enjoy special deals from retailers and restaurants, plus live entertainment around every corner! Each week, GlensFallsRegion.com is introducing you to some special performers at the event. Today we are highlighting Lady Riggy, sword swallower, to make your Monday morning a little more exotic.

Lady Riggy is one of ten female sword swallowers left living in the world today. She learned her craft from from some of the greatest sword swallowers of all time, and can swallow many things such as a coat hanger, one sword or even two at once!

She is also a human blockhead, which means she is able to pound large nails and electric drills into her nose. As if that wasn't enough skill for one person, she can also perform many of the old-time circus sideshow acts.

She has performed with The World of Wonders Sideshow, the oldest traveling sideshow in the United States, and The Forbidden Oddities Sideshow. Additionally, Lady Riggy has performed up and down the East Coast, amazing audiences with her skills and acerbic wit

Her performances have taken place at venues large enough for thousands and small venues for just a few people, but she always gives everyone the same spectacular show and leaves people wondering "how did she do that?"

She got her start locally, performing at The Double M Haunted Hayrides, and since then, nothing has been able to stop her. This will be Lady Riggy's second year performing at Take a Bite in Glens Falls, and she looks forward to sharing and educating people about the gypsy life and the colorful people she has met along the way.

So don't stay home watching reruns of My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding next Wednesday! Come out to Take a Bite and see the stuff legends are made of.

Have you ever seen a sword swallower before? What traditional circus acts would you like to see in Glens Falls?
