What's New In Glens Falls

February 2012 Archives

St. Joseph's House of Grace of the Adirondacks has been changing lives for many years and now needs your help. The organization has created the event "Friday Fish Fry For Five" on March 2nd, March 16th and March 30th in order to raise money to care for their elderly patients. Money is tight and even the smallest donation goes a long way.

Those who attend the event will receive a commemorative glass, complimentary finger food, and an evening of entertainment! Tickets are $35 in advance, and $40 at the door. Designated drivers pay $10 to enjoy water, soda, and appetizers.

The Hyde Collection announced that its prized Christ with Folded Arms by Rembrandt van Rijn has returned to its Hyde Collection home in Hyde House Library.

It will be on view again to the public starting Wednesday, February 22, 2012.

Tractor Supply Company will be opening their 65th store in New York this summer. Construction has been underway since December with a completion date set for June.

Tractor Supply is a farm and ranch supply retail supply store chain, the largest of its kind in the United States. The first store in New York was built in 1986.

The new Greenwich location will employ 12 to 17 team members, both part-time and full-time. The store will be located at 1175 State Route 29. Greenwich is seen as a great fit for Tractor Supply, as Washington County is home to many hobby and part-time farmers, as well as horse owners.

This will beat driving to Saratoga for the nearest Tractor Supply! What do you think about the retail chain's new location?

Local fundraising efforts are being made to help pay for the funeral of Jesse Smith, a 15-month-old child that passed away last week.

Cassandra Harrington is going to collect bottles and cans through Sunday, return them for deposit refunds, and bring the money to the funeral home that will be handling the service.

I saw some people making bottle/can collections at the Broad St. Hannaford over the weekend for the cause. It's unclear if they will be there this week. Anyone who wishes to help can drop bottles and cans off at Harrington's home at 64 Peggy Ann Road in Queensbury.

The child died from injuries last week that were allegedly inflicted by his father during visitation.

Our hearts go out to the James family in this time of sorrow.
The Sacramento Kings finally come to New York City tonight to play against the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden. This is a game that many locals have been waiting for, ever since Jimmer Fredette was chosen 10th overall in the 2011 NBA draft last June.

Tickets for the game went fast (only available on StubHub now) as native New Yorkers are anxious to see their hometown hero Fredette play in NYC. However, as of last week there is a new star in town by the name of Jeremy Lin.

Former Glens Falls Police Chief Joseph Bethel, and former Glens Falls Police Captain Lloyd Swartz will offer an armed security guard course to the public towards the end of February.

The course will provide the students with the required training and the necessary certificates to work for armored vehicles, banks, and in other security positions.

phantoms.jpgThe Adirondack Phantoms are in the middle of their best season since coming to Glens Falls two and a half years ago. Right now their winning percentage sits right at .500 for the season.

A winning record won't keep the team in town though. Brothers Robert and Jim Brooks, owners of the Adirondack Phantoms, announced that the team plans to move to Allentown, Pennsylvania after next season. This announcement doesn't come as a huge surprise to many.
