What's New In Glens Falls

December 2011 Archives

MP900182785.JPGAs many of you know, Mike Fazio stepped down as president of the South Warren Snowmobile Club. Fazio had been president of the club for 12 years, and really turned a small club into a rather large organization.

The club held a Board of Directors Meeting on December 1st, and elected new officers. Want to know who's in charge now? Read on..
gavel.JPGThere is a new eatery in Hudson Falls in the former courthouse on Main Street. Scott and Jamie Beale have moved on from operating the Grey Gelding Bistro & Bar on Broadway in Saratoga Springs, and have opened the Gavel Grille.

The new restaurant has a bit of a courthouse theme, and the dishes are named after famous criminals. The "Butch Cassidy" Burger and the "Lobster Gotti" are fan favorites. The menu features American cuisine with a California/Cajun edge.
No, that's not a typo. If you've never heard of latke, it's a potato pancake that is eaten during the Hanukkah holiday season. And 2011 marks the first year that Glens Falls will play host to its own Latke Fest!

The 1st Annual Latke Fest will take place this Sunday, Dec 18th at Temple Beth El, located at 3 Marion Avenue in Glens Falls.

The celebration will be filled with music, games and a latke cook-off! Even the kids will get a chance to participate with their own latke creations.

Sounds like great fun and a terrific way to celebrate in the spirit of Hanukkah!

The same great event with even warmer weather!? Yes, please!

For the first time in 40 years the LARAC June Arts Fest has changed its date. The fantastic festival will now take place on June 16th and 17th. In past years, the eclectic festival was held during the second full weekend of June.
atf_logo.jpgThe Adirondack Theatre Festival will be hosting a Winter Gala on Friday, January 13th at 7:00pm. The party will take place at the Charles R. Wood Theater in Glens Falls and will feature some very classy entertainment, an auction, delicious hors d'ouvres by Gourmet Café, special wine selections by Adirondack Wine Merchants, and beer by Davidson Brothers.

The theme of this year's Gala is based on superstitions, namely Friday the 13th. Objects of various superstitions will decorate the theater. Entertainment will be provided by Liz Larsen performing Tales of 13: Curses, Charms and Chance. Larsen has starred in Broadway classics such as: Hair Spray, Rocky Horror Picture Show, and Fiddler on the Roof.
