Foodies Review: Celia's Table In Downtown Glens Falls, NY

Today a couple of the Glens Falls Gourmet Gals decided to go out to lunch and catch up. We have a lot to talk about since finding out our team "Team Gus" was chosen for the final round of the Chuckwagon Challenge at the 21st Annual Gala for the Double H Ranch at Six Flags Great Escape on June 29! We'll have more to share about that, but now back to lunch!

Jen, Amberly and myself (Deb) decided to try someplace downtown that none of us had tried before. Amberly suggested we try Celia's Table on Exchange Street. We agreed and off we went. I didn't recognize the name at first, but once we got there I realized I had passed this restaurant dozens of times on my way to lunch at other downtown restaurants and for no particular reason just never stopped in.  I can safely say that those days are gone for good. We'll be making it a point to go back for future meals without a doubt!

The minute we walked in the door I felt right at home. The smell of fresh food being prepared in the kitchen, the cozy decor and the happy faces of the people enjoying their meals, they had me at hello - literally! Our server came to hand us our menus and said "Debbie?"

I looked up and there stood a friend from back in the days of my summer job at Fort William Henry! Talk about a blast from the past! She proceded to tell me that Maureen Monahan Chase is one of the owners! I looked at the gals and said "the food is definitely going to be good here!"

Maureen was one of my first bosses at Fort William Henry and even as a kid, I knew this woman knew how to do food the way it should be done! All the dishes on the menu are homemade and prepared fresh using the finest ingredients.

First our salads arrived and I was already happy. I have been so disappointed in the quality of ingredients that some places use these days, it was so nice to see fresh greens that practically looked fresh picked, crispy cucumbers and a generous amount of halved current tomatoes. The dressing is made in house. I recommend the citrus vinaigrette. It to me was the perfect light, summer flavor for the fresh veggies.

So now I'm excited to have some good food for lunch! Choosing was not easy for me. They have some of my favorite comfort foods on their menu. I was torn between macaroni & cheese or turkey pot pie. Jennifer and I went for the macaroni & cheese with a tossed salad, Amberly went with homemade cream of broccoli soup & sandwich sampler. I love the sandwich sampler idea. The sandwiches are served on fresh baked sour dough rolls, a tad larger than a slider roll and you can choose 2 different kinds sandwiches. It's a great way to sample their fresh turkey terragon, chicken, egg salads and more!

amberly2.jpgAs I expected the food was excellent! The service was speedy and friendly. It really was like going to a friend's house for lunch. My only complaint would be that the food was so good I didn't have room for dessert! When I go back (and I will) I'll be sure to save room!
