June 2012 Archives

cory6.jpgNothing beats the taste of fresh strawberries in the summer. It's so much fun to actually pick them yourself and come up with creative ways to eat them!

Last week, my sister Cory went strawberry picking at  Horseman Farms in Schenectady NY. Being a foodie herself, she decided to make a bunch of different recipes with her pickings. They looked so delicious that I just had to share! Here are a few things she made:

  • Strawberries Shortcake Cookies
  • Strawberry Mojitos
  • Strawberry Rhubarb Pie
  • White Chocolate Covered Strawberries

Below are some pictures of her creations. If these don't inspire you to go on a Strawberry Pickin' Adventure, I don't know what will!

Today a couple of the Glens Falls Gourmet Gals decided to go out to lunch and catch up. We have a lot to talk about since finding out our team "Team Gus" was chosen for the final round of the Chuckwagon Challenge at the 21st Annual Gala for the Double H Ranch at Six Flags Great Escape on June 29! We'll have more to share about that, but now back to lunch!

Jen, Amberly and myself (Deb) decided to try someplace downtown that none of us had tried before. Amberly suggested we try Celia's Table on Exchange Street. We agreed and off we went. I didn't recognize the name at first, but once we got there I realized I had passed this restaurant dozens of times on my way to lunch at other downtown restaurants and for no particular reason just never stopped in.  I can safely say that those days are gone for good. We'll be making it a point to go back for future meals without a doubt!

Last week I was craving Salmon and I decided to go with Mediterranean flavors. I didn't follow a particular recipe, but made it up as I went along. Sounds scary right? It actually turned out phenomenally and it's my favorite Salmon dish to date!
Last week the Gourmet Gals and I had a lovely dinner at Mary's house. Or barn, I should say! That's right, she lives in The Barn on Chestnut Ridge Road - a 100 year old dairy barn that has been transformed into 4,000 square feet of luxury. It truly looks like a home straight out of Better Homes & Gardens. Take a look..
