valentines day

user-pic
so......the day started as any other, with a quick walk, some breakfast and then a jump in the car for the ride to south glens falls.  when we park near the hudson river, there is an excitement that is hard to contain.  not sure if it is because of the serenity of the woodsy area or the beauty of the river.  or both.  anyway, we start our walk with maggie and sally and notice that there are a few other walkers on this tuesday morning, a beautiful morning.  maggie and i are whooping it up...she is so beautiful...and i hardly notice that the "girls" are far behind.  soon, though, they catch up and we continue our walk/run.  it is decided that we should go around a second time, making it a 3 mile hike.  ok by me.  when we finally get back to the car, i hear the girls talking about who is doing what on this "holiday".  nothing exciting, for sure.  then the decision is made for me.  i am going home with sally and maggie and i will have dinner with my love AND i will spend the night.  oh, lord, what a terrific decision.  and i never even got her chocolates.  oh, right, chocolates are very bad for dogs.  the very last thing i want is for my valentine, the goldendoodle, to be sick on such a special day and because i am also a "doodle", i would not eat chocolate either.

CAROLE NEWELL

as the former owner of Samantha's Cafe & Catering, carole loves to eat. she grew up on a farm in northern ny, where at a given time of year, there was fresh meat for the freezer. often, on a sunday, a chicken made its way into the "pot". there was unpasteurized milk, cream for homemade ice cream and sulfur water from the well. life was as good as it gets. after college at potsdam, she made her way to glens falls. in 1986, with her husband's help, she started her business named after her daughter the focus was originally on homemade soups, breads from scratch, customer service and having a great time. still, there is the same focus, but now we factor in "green", and local products. good, healthy food can always be found at samantha's. we hope you love to eat, too!
