the move to bolton landing last june was an emotional experience. after a couple of months looking at apartments in glens falls, i decided to go for it and make a real move. i couldn't get too far from my business, but when i think about how close to the cafe i was living, literally above it, i wanted to make a change so that i could possibly forget about the place when it wasn't open. that hasn't happened exactly as i hoped, but bolton is more than i hoped for. the summer street scene was incredible. the main street is a narrow one so no one goes fast from one end of town to the other. there is a subtle sofistication in the town and when i compare the street where i walk bodie to the steet in glens falls where we walked....well, there is no comparison. i enjoyed the music coming from the deck of the restaurant directly across the street from my porch and many people parking on the side street stopped to visit. cars were from all over the u.s. the experience of living in a tourist town in summer was truly exceptional.
a new worker-bee has come to the cafe! she came as the other two were leaving....almost passing in the doorway. definitely in the "nick of time" as they say. and what a godsend, bringing so much positive energy into the place, we are all but dancing. the "new girl" has worked in foodie type places, but more important has an amazing attitude. she even told me not to pick up something that she would do it. i think that is called respect or at least feeling for the "old lady". whatever it is, i love it. in one more week, she will be with us full time as she is finishing a job which she started in the summer. i like that too as it shows responsibility, loyality, and sense of doing what is right. at this point, i still need to find another part time person who loves to bake and is flexible. she is out there and we will soon meet. the great ole friends are still filling in when necessary and are truly heaven sent. life is good.
after i was left short-handed last week with the exit of 2 employees, i became anxious....for a minute. then along came 2 old friends, with many years of delicious meals and thousands of cookies lovingly prepared. one friend said she had a couple of hours to spare and did i have something she could do. you bet i had something to do.....soft molasses cookies. she was definitely up for that as she declared her love for those special cookies. and what a great job she did. the other friend actually did work at the cafe for a time and did all the baking. she would make peanut blossoms and visit with the other friend, who she already knew from years ago. it was win-win for everyone and i was the happiest of all! thanks to old dear friends. cookies anyone?
