His love for the djembe continues to grow the more he learns about the people and the culture of Africa. Since co-founding African Experience, the group has brought the sounds of Africa to the greater capital region!
Jasmine Ceniceros has had a long-standing interest in African Dance and Music. She began studying and practicing African Dance in 1993 with Eno Washington (from Senegal, WEST AFRICA) in Amherst, Massachusetts. She has spent the past twenty years dedicated to studying with African Dance masters from Guinea, Ghana, Senegal, Mali, Ivory Coast, Congo, Zimbabwe, and Mozambique. In recent years, she has organized and taught dance classes and workshops for adults and children throughout the upstate capital district. She has collaborated with: Siena College, SUNY, Albany Academies, Shaker High school (Latham, NY), St. Paul?s Music & Art Program (Troy, NY), YWCA (Troy, NY), and the annual internationally attended Dance Flurry Festival (Saratoga Springs, NY). Currently, she is developing the BADJO School of West African Dance and Drumming in the tri-state area. She is a certified dance instructor, incorporating stretching/strengthening, yoga, and isometric techniques into her curriculum.
This event is the first part of a three-part series entitled "Rural Soul Drumming and Movement". The Stillwater Free Library is proud to have been awarded a 2013 Saratoga Arts Council Project Grant to be able to offer this multi-generational arts and culture exploratory workshop set in the great outdoors!
