The Wiawaka Center for Women on Lake George enriches, inspires, and celebrates, the growth of women through unique and relevant programming, offering a restorative experience in a natural and peaceful setting. We invite you to visit this summer for our appliqué and quilting retreat in July! The retreat includes overnight accommodations, meals, and workshops. This retreat will be led by seasoned quilting expert teachers, Pat Bayard and Carrie Williams. Quilting instruction will be in the morning from 9am-12pm and in the afternoon and evening there will be recreation and free time for guests to enjoy the beautiful lake front property. There retreat is $495 and includes overnight accommodations & meals beginning with dinner on Sunday and ending with breakfast on Friday. There is a $10 material fee, paid directly to instructors. Artist Larry Kagan of Troy, New York, has engaged with the process of creating a hybrid combination of the solid component of a steel wire sculpture and the specific shadow it casts on the wall in a way that challenges expectations. Edward Hopper (1882-1967) engaged in the aesthetic of shadows and their primacy in representation. Hopper's use of shadows is a signature motif of his work and an integral part of its power to enthrall viewers, emphasizing the sense of alienation, anonymity, and isolation of the human condition. The exhibition will feature five works by Hopper and approximately twenty works on paper by nine artists, primarily etchings on loan from museums, private collections, and selected from The Hyde's permanent collection.

The Feminist Responsibility Project (FRP) by New York-based artist Beverly Semmes includes drawings, video, ceramics, and illuminated glass forms that are suspended throughout the gallery. At the heart of the exhibition is a collection of works on paper that features rough gestural applications of ink and paint that conceal and reveal the body as depicted in pornographic magazines.
