Almost everyone has an old TV, computer, printer, cell phone or other gadgets lurking about the house or office hoping to stay out of the trash. Unwanted or expired medicine also tends to remain in cabinets for years and flushing them is no longer a responsible method of disposal. Both electronic and pharmaceutical waste should be recycled or disposed of properly to protect the environment and public health. Sunnking, Inc., the Federation of New York Solid Waste Associations, the NYS Police, Wheelabrator Hudson Falls and The Sagamore Resort are offering Lake George area residents a chance to recycle their old, used, or broken electronics and properly dispose of pharmaceutical waste for free.

Sunnking, a well-established electronics recycling company, will be facilitating this free collection event in conjunction with the Federation's annual Solid Waste Conference and Trade Show on Monday May 21, from 1-5 p.m. in the parking lot of The Sagamore Resort (110 Sagamore Road, Bolton Landing, NY 12814).

"This event allows conference attendees to see how an ewaste and pharmaceutical collection works in practice and gives back to a great local community that's probably underserved," said Meg Morris, Chair of the Federation. "Local residents and businesses can have peace of mind in knowing all unwanted materials are securely destroyed or recycled responsibly while protecting our air and water resources."

Electronics Recycling Collection Event (Residents and Small Businesses): Items accepted at no charge will include: laptops, desktops, computer accessories, TVs, monitors, audio/video equipment, mp3 players, communications equipment, servers & IT equipment, printers, scanners, copiers, fax machines, cell phones, PDAs, medical/lab equipment and any item with a circuit board.

Pharmaceutical Waste Collection Event (Residents ONLY): Pharmaceuticals accepted at this event include outdated or unwanted medications (over-the-counter or prescription). This collection event is for residential pharmaceutical waste only. Pharmacy, veterinary or any other pharmaceutical business waste will not be accepted. All material collected will be incinerated under law enforcement supervision. Proper disposal of pharmaceutical waste protects the local environment and public health.

This year's Federation conference marks the thirteenth year it has been held at The Sagamore. Last year, hundreds of participants were registered from New York, other northeast states, Canada and Europe. The Federation is the umbrella organization for the NYS Association for Reduction, Reuse & Recycling, the NYS Association for Solid Waste Management and the Solid Waste Association of North America - NYS Chapter.
