This workshop prepares you for the New York State Notary Public exam and will provide a comprehensive view of the Notary Public Office. Examples will be provided to illuminate situations that a Notary is likely to encounter. Topics include: avoiding conflicts of interest, maintaining professional ethics, charging proper fees, handling special situations and when to defer to an attorney. What is Balancé Barre? A trendy, new and effective group fitness class like no other, barre-based classes use a combination of postures inspired by ballet, yoga and Pilates. The ballet barre (or chairs) are used as props to balance while doing exercises that focus on isometric strength training. Isometric training is holding your body still while you contract a specific set of muscles and engage in high reps of small range-of-motion movements. You will feel the burn!

Get off the couch and get on the road with our Couch to 5K program for beginners. Your coach will ease you into the adrenaline pumping sport of running by starting you out with an interval walking and jogging routine. Over the 10-week program you will be amazed at what you are capable of. A ¼ mile time will be taken at the first and last class so that you can see your progress. Your training will prepare you to successfully complete a local 5K race. Participants are responsible for their race registration fees (5k participation is optional, but encouraged because it is so much fun!). March 8 Wednesday | 8:30am to 4pm You will have a half hour lunch on your own. This course will introduce the essential skills used by mediators to bring people in opposition to mutual understanding and resolution. The process of mediation - in contrast with other dispute resolution processes, values and conflict styles - will be explored. Participants will gain valuable skill sets that are highly effective in helping people communicate well and work through challenging situations. Skills relating to listening, empathizing, reframing and problem solving are relevant for anyone wishing to effectively assist others to maintain relationships while working through conflict - both professionally and personally. Participants will walk away with practical skills they can put to immediate use. Mediation Matters is a Community Dispute Resolution Center providing mediation, training, facilitation and conflict-resolution services serving Warren, Washington, Saratoga, Schenectady, Albany and Rensselaer counties and has been funded in part by the New York State Office of Court Administration since 1981. This multifaceted organization of professionals is dedicated to encouraging a culture of peace by empowering people to manage and resolve conflict in a constructive way, providing effective skills and processes and increasing the capability for non-adversarial and self-determined problem solving within the community.

Kim Harvish, educator at the Chapman Historical Museum, will talk about an oral history project that has been undertaken as part of the Help Wanted: Female exhibit. Through photos, sound and printed materials, she will share stories and historical information and facilitate discussion with class participants. While the projects includes research from the late 1800s to 1975, the oral history portion of the project concentrates on 1955-1975.

March 21 to April 20 Tuesdays & Thursdays | 6 to 9pm Glens Falls Wastewater Treatment Plant This class is one of three courses offered as part of the NYS DEC Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certificate series. This particular course will teach you proper procedures for solids analysis, pH and alkalinity determination, chlorine determination, BOD and Winkler Dissolved Oxygen. Hands-on application will follow discussion and demonstration of each procedure; there is a proficiency exam for each procedure. This course fulfills laboratory proficiency for DEC certification and is appropriate for operator renewal credit.

Decoupage is a fun and easy way to decorate just about anything with cut outs that are pasted on and then varnished. You can also paint the background to enhance the decoration and make it as simple or as complex as you’d like. It is easy for any level of crafter, and we will decorate a box, a tray and a Christmas ornament over three different classes. All materials will be supplied, but the possibility of using graphics and/or objects you may already have will be discussed at the first class.

Calling on all runners and walkers! The Glens Falls Rotary annually hosts a 5K road race in April each year. The race is held at the SUNY Adirondack campus on Bay Road in Queensbury, and the course is mostly flat and fast with just one small hill. This year the club has selected the Chapman Historical Museum and the Greater Glens Falls Senior Citizen Center to be the beneficiaries of the event.
