GFH began implementing EMR products from Epic Systems in their physician practices in early 2012 and is contracting with Cleveland Clinic’s MyPractice Healthcare Solutions (MPHS) to assist in the deployment and optimization of Epic platforms. Cleveland Clinic was one of the first healthcare systems in the country to install the Epic EMR system and has more than ten years of experience working with Epic, the country’s leading healthcare EMR-software provider. A 2012 Forbes article estimates that 127 million patients – or nearly 40 percent of the U.S. population – will have its medical information stored in an Epic digital record this year.

Cleveland Clinic MPHS offers project management and implementation expertise designed to streamline the Epic installation and ensure its success. MPHS analysts offer on-site services as well as remote support for installation recommendations, best practices, and leadership from lessons learned. This is just one of several collaborative relationships the GFH system is developing with regional health care organizations in an effort to improve quality and health care efficiencies.

Among the Epic products installed at GFH is “MyChart,” which provides an extensive clinical and billing records portal for patients. MyChart has been successfully implemented in GFH’s community health center physician practices.
Cleveland Clinic is a recognized leader in the adoption of electronic medical records and other technologies, and was recently named by Gartner as one of the world’s most-admired organizations for information technology utilization. It has an extensive network of hospitals and outpatient facilities that share a fully integrate EMR.

“Our relationship with Cleveland Clinic will advance information technology best practices at GFH, and we will benefit by having access to a broad base of knowledge and the expertise of one of the country’s premier health systems,” said Joan McFaul, Chief Information Officer at Glens Falls Hospital. “We are excited about this opportunity and look forward to a productive relationship.”

“When hospitals choose to make the significant investment in a robust EMR, its success in improving patient care depends on taking advantage of all of its capabilities,” said Jonathan Straffon, executive director of MPHS at Cleveland Clinic. “By leveraging the expertise of our team’s years of experience in EMR implementation and customization, Glens Falls Hospital is ensuring that its patients and caregivers will reap all the benefits of the EMR.”

Throughout the month of April, Habitat for Humanity’s Cars for Homes program will celebrate its “Every Day is Earth Day” initiative, encouraging people to donate their used cars, trucks, RVs, boats and other vehicles to help raise funds for Habitat for Humanity of Northern Saratoga, Warren, and Washington Counties and other Habitat affiliates throughout the country. The Cars for Homes program accepts donations year round.

“Since 1991 we have been building simple, decent and affordable housing in partnership with families in need, donations to the Cars for Homes program will help us continue assisting families in making their dreams of home ownership come true,” said Courtney Shaler Smith, Habitat for Humanity of Northern Saratoga, Warren, and Washington Counties Executive Director.

Every day, Habitat’s Cars for Homes generates funding from the sale of used cars, trucks, and other vehicles. Those funds are distributed to local Habitat for Humanity organizations in the U.S. to help build affordable homes in partnership with low-income families. To date, more than 40,000 vehicles have been donated to the program. Habitat for Humanity of Northern Saratoga, Warren, and Washington Counties has received $7,940.88 since the program’s inception.

“On average, about 25 percent of the vehicles we receive each year are recycled, so donating idle cars not only helps Habitat build homes but also gets gas guzzlers off the road, ” said Marcia Rundle, director of Habitat’s Cars for Homes program. “Donating a vehicle is a hassle-free way for anyone to support their local Habitat affiliate while being good stewards of the environment.”

Steve Thomas, Emmy-award winning former co-host of PBS’s “This Old House” and “Renovation Nation, has created a YouTube video on the Cars for Homes program http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iUnQwzDuQDE.

Interested donors can call 1-877-277-HFHI (4344) or donate a car or other vehicle online at www.CarsforHomes.com. Donor contact, title and vehicle information is collected, and upon acceptance of the donation, Cars for Homes will tow the vehicle away, free of charge. Donors receive an acknowledgement letter for their car donation and should check with the Internal Revenue Service or their tax advisor for information about the tax deductibility of their donation.
